Hywel Jones graduated from the LSE with a BSc in International Relations. He then went to Cambridge where he did an MPhil in International Relations and went on to get a PGCE in History. He worked as a History teacher at the City of Ely Community College and then moved to St Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford where he became an Assistant Head with responsibility for the 11-18 curriculum. He passionately believes education should provide students with an insight into our human heritage, and should not be overly concerned with the surface level of vocational and technological change.
Hywel is a keen competitive cyclist and takes part in races around East Anglia and has completed ultra-endurance Alpine events. He is fascinated by Cold War history and an avid reader of spy novels. He is married with two young children and is the coach of a local under-7 football team.
